Soundstep founders Douglas Kay (B.Ed Hons) and Sheona Anderson (B.Ed Hons) are both G.T.C. registered Primary School Teachers with over 30 years combined teaching experience.
Douglas Kay has been performing, recording and writing music for over 15 years, both solo and with other musicians. He has performed across 4 continents, sharing stages with the likes of Billy Bragg, Colin Hay & KT Tunstall. In addition to being an experienced singer and guitarist, Douglas plays bodhran, mandolin, piano, percussion, clarinet and didjeridu. His own music has achieved recognition in various quarters and has been featured on a number of radio stations including BBC Radio Scotland and Radio 1. He is a member of Scottish Folk duo The Sorries and in that capacity has performed sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the past 9 years.
Sheona Anderson was a member of the Sonwabo Masepe Gumboot Dance Company which took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm in August 2003 with their sell-out show A Good Hard Slap. Sheona also teaches Zumba and is experienced in salsa, flamenco, hip-hop and Scottish Country Dancing. In 2002 she was part of the Scottish team which achieved first place in the National Ceroc (modern jive) Championships.
At Soundstep Workshops we’re also very happy to have Dr. Martin Philip working with us. Martin, like Sheona, was a member of the Sonwabo Masepe Gumboot Dance Company, and he co-produced and starred in the 2003 Edinburgh Festival sell-out show, A Good Hard Slap. An accomplished musician who – with Douglas – formed The Sorries in 2006, Martin also lectures in Scottish & English literature.
